Holiday Gift Idea #5 of 12

A family ski trip can be lots of fun and makes a great holiday gift that definitely embodies the spirit of #ExperiencesNotStuff, but family ski vacations can be tricky to plan. To ensure everyone has a wonderful ski trip there are things like gear, lessons, clothing, and other things to consider. Check out our tips for a fantastic family ski vacation.
Some of our favorite spots for a family ski vacation include:
Park City, which has several ski resorts including Deer Valley, Park City, and Canyons. Check out the episode we filmed while on a family ski vacation in Utah.
Telluride, CO is a great place for a family ski vacation in Colorado. Its small village is so cute and easy to get around with lots of restaurants and shops and the best part is it’s snuggled right up to the base of the mountain, which means lots of ski-in, ski-out accommodation choices! It
combines the convenience of the ski-in, ski-out accommodation with the dining and shopping flexibility of staying in a town, which makes it easy for families with different ski abilities and interests,
Village of Telluride, Colorado
At the end of the day, you have the option to ski down (can you guess which run we took) to the village or take the gondola. You can see the village down below and to the right.

Right near Telluride (although a 2 hour drive away) is Purgatory, another family-friendly place for ski vacations. It has lots of ski-in, ski-out accommodation (as you can see from the picture below…it’s really ski-in, ski-out!); however if you are looking for a village atmosphere, Purgatory is not your place. The resort is a half-hour drive from the town of Durango. But, I do have to say that heated pool at the base of the run is sure nice!
Last, but not least, of our favorite family ski destinations is Lake Tahoe, located just outside Reno, Nevada. Why? It has a dozen or so ski mountains lining its shores so there’s lots to choose from…you could ski a different mountain each day of your trip! We love Mount Rose for its laid back vibe, but Heavenly has lots of different terrain to suit all levels of skiers and snowboarders in your family and the views over Lake Tahoe while you are skiing can’t be beat! Plus, there are so many activities around the lake that provide endless entertainment. We went during spring break to take advantage of multiple season activities…spring skiing at Mount Rose, rock climbing, biking along the lake shore to name a few!
